Small fragments of semi-precious stone, in this case, malachite, are mixed with a composite mix, which is dried, waxed,and polished.This method was first used in 17th century Tuscany in place of very expensive marble inlays for the Medici family houses. The end product is much richer in color than conventional marble.

All the metal parts are cast initially in bronze, then plated with 24 carat gold.
