A very grand suspended ceiling light, made in Venice from clear hand-blown Murano “piastra” glass. What you see here are many pieces of piastra glass, formed by hand and looped over a metal frame.

The design and style are firmly rooted in the 1970s, but it's made using a technique which dates back as far as the thirteenth century. It's a very labour intensive method, as the molten glass is formed into the required shape by hand, using iron tools, and then left to cool.
